The best thing to do right now is to feed them a good quality dog food formulated for large breeds, make sure to keep them at a lean-to-average body condition, and wait to spay neuter until at least 6 months. (You want to spay by 6 months, but you can put off castrating until about 8 months.) This will give them the best start in life in having healthy joints.

Once they are a year, you can switch them to Purina JM or Hill's j/d. These diets are formulated for joint health.

If you want a joint supplement as well, Cosequin, Dasuquin, Curaflex and others that your vet may stock would likely be fine. However, even in adult dogs they are not proven to work all the time. No there isn't. I'd suggest not using store-bought products-they are horrible for your hair. If you want the oil for moisturizing reasons, I'd suggest Queen Helene Hair Cholesterol-it's fantastic for dry, brittle hair. Shampoo as usual, then glob it on, put a plastic bag on your haed and do something that will stimulate heat. (I vacuum my house)! Then rinse very well. You'll love the results and you only have to do it once a wk.

What exactly is Diabetes anyway?

Well first there are two types of diabetes and they have different characteristics even though the symptoms may feel the same.

Type 1 Diabetes, also called Insulin-Dependent Diabetes usually occurs in young people. You just don't produce enough insulin and daily injections are needed to metabolize your blood sugar.

A person can be born with Diabetes 1 or it is developed by those who cannot or will not control Diabetes Type 2 with proper medication, diet and exercise.

Type 2 diabetes, also called Adult-Onset Diabetes, occurs almost exclusively in adults. Usually high GI diets are the culprit and the sufferers are overweight.

Diabetes 2 is one of the diseases, which results when the pancreas starts to feel the strain of excessive insulin stimulus from long term blood sugar spikes and the muscles become insensitive to insulin. If we keep the food we eat in balance (low and high carbohydrates), the spiking of blood sugar levels can be avoided, and a more harmonious functioning of our organs will ensure future health and longevity.

But Type 2 Diabetes is not the only physical health issue related to obesity. People who are overweight and/or obese are at major risk for contacting severe chronic diseases such as cancer, cardiovascular disease, osteoporosis, and hypertension.

Type 2 Diabetes is a terrible thing to get. It is a progressive disorder and should be avoided at all costs. Early corrective action is critical. It can usually be controlled with diet, exercise and oral medication some times combined with insulin.

Does alkaline water burn your stomach?

I drank it two days ago and my throat and stomach burn. I have acid reflux.

It shouldn't. Alkaline water is not induced by chemicals and actually helps with creating bicarbonates to improve digestive system function. If anything the alkaline water will neutralize the over acidity from the acid reflux that would in turn reduce any symptoms of your acid reflux. I would suggest continuing to drink alkaline water.
